In 2011, Weight Watchers revoked its original system and announced its new and improved Points Plus system. However, both have their merits and some people still swear by the original methodology. Because of this, we'll outline both!

  1. 1

Use an online calculator to pinpoint your daily allowance. Making sure it uses the PointsPlus system! There are no two ways around it -- just getting a calculator is the simplest way. With the new formula, activity is assumed with your sex and certain numbers are weighted and there's a bunch of decimal places you really shouldn't have to worry about.

    • Just to prove a point, the Total Energy Expenditure formula is:
      TEE = 387 - (7.31 x age) + (PA x ((10.9 x wgt) + (660.7 x Ht))[1]
      • ...See? And that's just one formula of many.
  2. 2

Calculate your food points, too. The process of counting food points is different with the new system, too. You need to get a calculator and punch in the amount of protein, carbs, fat and fiber (no calories!) in the food you're eating. Once you do this enough times, it'll become old hat. Weight Watchers has reference material for most restaurants and food items, but if you run into the odd product that isn't pre-listed, you can figure it out with a few button pushes.

    • This formula is a bit convoluted, too, if you want to do it yourself. Curious? It looks something like this:

      Points Plus = (Protein grams / 11) + (Carbohydrate grams / 9) + (Fat grams / 4) - (Fiber grams / 35)

    • Here's another way of thinking about it: [(Protein grams x 16) + (Carbohydrate grams x 19) + (Fat grams x 45) + (Fiber grams x 5)]/175
      • Again, a calculator will be your best friend.

  3. 3

Find out how many activity points you have. There are a whole bunch of resources you can find online when it comes to calculating how many points you've earned for your workouts. Onemorepound.com has a good chart that can walk you through it. You'll need to know the intensity and duration of your workout and your weight.

    • 30 minutes of a moderately intense workout for someone that weights 175 pounds is two points. If you wanted to eat that cheesecake, you'll need to work out for a spell, that's for sure.
    • If it wasn't clear, activity points can be lobbed off your daily points usage. If you ate 27 points worth of food, but moderately exercised for 30 minutes, you're down to 25 (weight depending). Huzzah!
  4. 4

Know the "zero" foods. On this new program, all fruits and many veggies (but not all) are zero points. AWESOME. That's the way it should be. Check your materials or with your weight watcher buddies to find out which ones are on this list. But remember, eating 19 bananas is not the way to go. They should be snacks, not meals!

    • However, they're not zero when they're combined in recipes. Be sure to include their content when you're finding out the point value of dishes you're creating.[2]
  5. 5

Use your 49 weekly PointsPlus points whenever and however you'd like. On this new system, you get 49 points to throw around freely. P.F. Chang's, anyone?

  6. 6

Know the differences between the systems. The reason the old system got revamped is because it had too much emphasis on calories. If you got confronted with a small bag of cookies and an apple (eat these or your family gets it!), they'd have similar point values. You had no reason to go for the apple over the cookies, even though it's obviously healthier.

    • That being said, both systems do lead to watching calories -- a basic tenant of losing weight. If the original system is easier for you, choose it. If it's easy, you'll stick with it!
    • In general, most foods have higher point values with the new system (apart from fruits and veggies, which are often 0). However, you'll probably have a higher daily allowance, too.

  1. 1

Start the point analysis for your daily allowance with your sex and age. The energy requirement of every person is individual and thus the number of points you may consume can differ among different people. Just answer the following questions and add all the points up.

    • Sex:
      • a) Female - 2 POINTS
        • If you're nursing, that's 12 points.
      • b) Male - 8 POINTS
    • Age
      • 17-26 - 4 POINTS
      • 27-37 - 3 POINTS
      • 38-47 - 2 POINTS
      • 48-58 - 1 POINT
      • Over 58 - 0 POINTS
  2. 2

Add in your weight. How much do you weigh in pounds? You'll have to note the first two digits (or first digit if you're under 100 pounds). To convert to pounds from kilograms, simply multiply your weight by 2.2 (for example, a person weighing 70 kg weighs 154 lbs).

    • 90 - 99 lbs - 9 POINTS
    • 100 - 109 lbs - 10 POINTS
    • 110 - 119 lbs - 11 POINTS
    • 120 - 129 lbs - 12 POINTS
    • 130 - 139 lbs - 13 POINTS
    • 140 - 149 lbs - 14 POINTS
    • 150 - 159 lbs - 15 POINTS
    • 160 - 169 lbs - 16 POINTS
    • 170 - 179 lbs - 17 POINTS
    • 180 - 189 lbs - 18 POINTS
      • And so on and so forth.
  3. 3

Account for your height. The taller you are, the more points you get.

    • a) Between 5'1" and 5'10" - 1 POINT
    • b) 5 feet 10" or taller - 2 POINTS
  4. 4

Account for your activity level. The more physically active you are in general, the more calories you expend on a daily basis. Because of this, it needs to be computed into your daily points allowance. What is your activity level?

    • a) mainly sitting - 0 POINTS
    • b) mainly standing, sometimes sitting - 2 POINTS
    • c) mainly walking, sometimes standing - 4 POINTS
    • d) physically exhausting - 6 POINTS
  5. 5

Add all your points up above. This is how many points you are allowed to eat each day. However, keep in mind that you have 35 flex points that can be used throughout the week, too.

    • What's more, physical activity counts as negative points. If you've worked out that day, you may get a few bonus points under your belt to reduce the points you acquire with meals.
  6. 6

Calculate the points in your food. Now that you know your daily allowance, it's time to know how many points are in the foods you're eating. The original system is pretty straightforward, at least in comparison to its newer counterpart. Here's the formula:

    • p=(cal/50) + (fat/12) - (fiber/5)
    • In simpler terms: the number of points = calories / 50 + fat grams / 12 - fiber / 5
      • However, only fiber up to 4 is used. So if your dish has 10 grams of fiber...you still use 4. Don't ask. But yes, that is a minus sign; fiber makes your food healthier, so it's fewer points.

  • Another method to find the points in a food from nutritional information is by using this simple formula: e(cal per 100g)/70 + f(g per 100g)/4.05. This way you get the POINTS in 100g of a product.

  • The fat calculation is only estimated for ease of calculation. If there are more than 20g of fat, divide the fat by 1.2 before adding and ask yourself why you need so much fat in a food?

Co-working spaces provide much more than a place to get in a full day of work outside your home or local coffee shop. This is especially true in San Francisco, a vibrant city characterized by numerous unique neighborhoods, an abundance of dining options and many easily accessible transportation hubs. Several sites are located near major roads and freeways, providing easy accessibility by car.

Many of these co-working spaces can be found in the heart of the city and have just as much to offer on the inside as they do on the outside. Let's take a look at some of the best options.

Covo San Francisco is located on Mission Street in San Francisco's SOMA neighborhood. Several innovative companies can be found nearby, including Zendesk and Slack. This coworking space is also within walking distance of numerous bars, restaurants and museums when you're ready for some downtime. If you feel like stretching your legs a bit more, you can head to SOMA Pilipinas, one of the city's hottest new cultural districts.

Covo certainly finds itself in an interesting location in the heart of the city, which means there's plenty to keep workers happy on their breaks throughout the day. The coworking space is housed in a three-level community that's rich in arts and culture, with amenities such as a bike room, day-use lockers, a coffee shop, tap lounge and 24/7 access. The space is also pet friendly, so you don't have to worry about leaving Fido at home to get in a productive day at the office. Membership options range from hourly coworking to private office spaces.

SHARED

SHARED is located at the intersection of Bryant Street and 5th Street in San Francisco's bustling SoMa (South of Market) neighborhood. Highlights in the area include San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Moscone Center, a bustling events venue. To recharge or stretch your legs, head to Yerba Buena Gardens or Salesforce Park at Salesforce Transit Center. This 5.4-acre elevated park lets you walk four stories above the city streets for some fantastic views. If you're driving to it, the space is just off I-80, making it especially convenient for commuters and meetings.

To take advantage of public transportation, SF Caltrain Station is just a few blocks away. While the station boasts several eateries, there are plenty of other places to grab a snack or enjoy a lunch meeting in the neighborhood. Bike parking is also available if you live near enough to bike to work. On the inside, SHARED features 5,500 square feet of shared workspace and 1,700 feet of private workspace. Spacious 15-foot ceilings and numerous skylights keep the space open and bright.

ECO-SYSTM

ECO-SYSTM is located near the intersection of Howard and 1st Streets, just blocks away from city highlights like Salesforce Tower, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, which includes the luscious Yerba Buena Gardens. If you're in the mood to grab a bite to eat or drink, there are several cafes, restaurants and bars in the area. Local discounts are available, so you can see the city's highlights without breaking the bank.

Other amenities include a shared kitchen with coffee, tea and snacks along with lockers, bike parking and networking events. On-site partnerships with Mirus Art Gallery and Temple Nightclub make this coworking space an intriguing space for all ages.

Bespoke

Bespoke Coworking is housed inside the bustling Westfield San Francisco Centre, located between the city's famous Market and Mission Streets. There's no shortage of opportunities to get out and explore your surroundings on breaks in this nine-story shopping mall. It's home to more than 170 restaurants and shops along with a multiplex cinema and a covered atrium.

The coworking space is centered on retail technology and offers amenities such as bike storage, a shared kitchen, community events, rooftop access, showers and a private room for mothers along with vendor and partner discounts. If you feel like getting your blood pumping, check out the bocce ball green or the bouldering wall. Rooftop access provides sweeping views of the city, and this coworking space is also pet friendly.

The Laundry

The Laundry sits on the corner of 26th and Capp Streets on the outskirts of San Francisco's Mission District. Caesar Chavez is a block away, and the coworking space is just minutes from the 101 for easy commuting. The Laundry is partly an art gallery, featuring exhibits from local artists along with a cafe at the front of the gallery with coffee, espresso, tea and pastries. In addition to the spacious, two-story, 6,000-square-foot gallery, The Laundry also offers dedicated space for workshops and meetings.

The Vault

San Francisco's The Vault coworking space is just as intriguing as its historic Jackson Square location. In fact, you don't need to have a sweet tooth to appreciate the fact that The Vault is housed in the original Ghirardelli Chocolate factory built in 1854. While some historic gems from the square's past remain, including the stunning Gold Rush-era architecture, the area is enjoying a boom in innovation and startup expansion. Unique amenities include the Vintage Library and the historic Speakeasy Lobby with an upscale bar.

The neighborhood is renowned for its food and dining options, and The Vault provides artisan cold brew and beer on tap, as well as catered "lunch and learn" sessions and kitchens stocked with snacks, tea and coffee. When break time rolls around, you can take advantage of the exercise room, catch some z's in the cozy nap corner or enjoy some sunshine on the outdoor patios. The Vault is close to Bart, Muni and numerous parking lots, making it ideally situated for commuting and meetings.

The Hivery

The Hivery SF is situated at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, just steps away from the city's Maritime National Historic Park on one side and the popular Marina Green waterfront park with views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge on the other. While many of the city's most popular coworking spaces can be found closer to the city center, the maritime setting gives this option a more peaceful vibe — exactly as intended.

Even though the Hivery isn't in the heart of San Francisco's busiest streets and neighborhoods, you can still find plenty of food and dining options nearby, not to mention an impressive amount of green space for those break-time strolls. This coworking space is big on collaboration and offers numerous workshops throughout the year. The space itself is housed inside a chic art gallery environment to help keep the creative juices flowing.

Living In

After paying rent for 10 years in Jersey City, Simran and Vikas Sekhri, both 37, were looking for a place of their own — and more breathing room. They got a bonus when they moved west last year to Livingston, N.J. They also found taekwondo, piano and tennis lessons for their 7-year-old son.

"There is close proximity to a lot of activities" in comparison with Jersey City, said Simran Sekhri, who, like her husband, is an accountant in New York. They also have a 2-year-old daughter.

With the hulking Livingston Mall and two busy thoroughfares lined with stores, Livingston, an Essex County bedroom community of 30,000, where Gov. Chris Christie was a class president, certainly offers conveniences.

But it also offers more space. The Sekhris paid $935,000 for a six-bedroom five-and-a-half-bath 1986 three-level house in the Forest Park neighborhood, then renovated it, although Ms. Sekhri said, "Even if we didn't do that, we could have lived there."

They commute to Manhattan by driving about 10 miles on Interstate 280 to the PATH station in Harrison and taking the train to the city. But the "big push factor" for Livingston, she said, was its highly rated public schools.

"It was a good school district, and a not-so-bad commute," she said.

Andrew and Robin Pack, parents of two daughters, ages 4 and 1, have lived in Livingston since 2009 and liked it so much that they traded up in August, buying a four-bedroom two-and-a-half bath 1958 split level on a third of an acre for $600,000. The lot is partly wooded, and open space across the street will not be developed, Mr. Pack said.

Ms. Pack, 36, is a Livingston native; Mr. Pack, 40, who considers himself a "bit of a handyman," thought Livingston resembled his hometown, Chapel Hill, N.C. They now live near Burnet Hill Elementary School, and Mr. Pack takes a township jitney to South Orange, where he catches a New Jersey Transit Midtown Direct train to his job as a program director in New York.

"The taxes are high," he said, "but we're better off than other towns that way."

Jerry Jacob, the branch vice president of the Livingston office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, said that homeowners' taxes are "a bit lower than most other Essex County municipalities because of all the ratables."

Lots are also larger, and the market is "definitely on the rise," said Jamie Silverman, an agent for Weichert Realtors in Livingston. Lately, she said, sellers tend to get multiple offers at 5 percent to 10 percent over their asking price.

"Even though we don't have the Midtown train, we do have very good access to it," she said. As a result, Livingston draws a lot of New York professionals and millennials because, as she said, "Livingston offers so much more value."

That is why Brian Milhorn, 38, a stay-at-home father, and his wife, Dr. Anastasia Kunac, 39, a trauma surgeon at University Hospital in Newark, moved to Livingston from Union City, N.J., in January. The couple bought a five-bedroom four-bath 1971 colonial on a half-acre for $800,000 and renovated it.

They have two sons, a 1-year-old and a newborn. Mr. Milhorn envisions their backyard as a soccer field — or a place for some other sort of athletic activity. The property "gives us the opportunity to do all kinds of things with the kids when they get bigger," he said.

What You'll Find

Livingston Township, occupying 14 square miles in western Essex County, was named in 1813 for William Livingston, the first governor of the state of New Jersey.

Interstate 280 runs along the township's northeast corner; State Route 24, beyond the southern border, leads to I-78 and Newark airport. The Livingston Mall, with more than 100 stores, is at Eisenhower Parkway and South Orange Avenue; the tonier Mall at Short Hills is about a 10-minute drive south of the center of the township.

Livingston Avenue cuts through the township and serves as the town's main street. Mount Pleasant Avenue, or State Route 10, intersects Livingston Avenue and is another busy commercial strip.

Livingston Town Center, at Livingston and Mount Pleasant Avenues, is a 10-year-old development with single-family homes, townhouses, condominiums and 65,000 square feet of retail space.

Alfred M. Anthony, a lawyer who became the part-time mayor of Livingston in January, said the township had its lowest tax-rate increase this year in 12 years, while trying to share services with neighboring communities.

"It's an ideal place to raise a family," said Mr. Anthony, who is married with four children and has lived in Livingston for 15 years.

A proposal to build a Marriott hotel next to the Livingston Mall met with some opposition recently, in part because it would make the hub even busier. "We have a great town, and we don't want to wreck it with traffic," the mayor said.

What You'll Pay

The Garden State Multiple Listing Service site listed 120 homes in Livingston on April 6, ranging from a renovated three-bedroom one-bath 1977 colonial for $240,000 to a 16,000-square-foot 2002 mansion with seven bedrooms and six baths on 1.73 acres for $4.95 million.

There were also 22 properties listed for rent on the M.L.S., ranging from $2,150 a month for a three-bedroom two-bath house to $4,500 for a three-bedroom three-bath townhouse.

According to M.L.S. figures supplied by Ms. Silverman of Weichert, 405 homes went under contract in 2015, averaging $693,300, and 57 days on the market; for 2014, averages were $628,452 and 47 days.

What to Do

The Senior, Youth and Leisure Services department is widely considered one of the township's strongest attributes, with programs ranging from poetry to Pilates. There are two community pools; 2016 family membership to both for residents is $324 through April 19, $432 afterward.

There are playing fields, shuffleboard and tennis courts at Memorial Oval, in front of Livingston High School.

The Livingston Public Library has programs like lectures and movies as well as book clubs for children, teenagers and adults.

Chain restaurants and stores proliferate, but there are also independently owned places to eat like Sweet Basil's Cafe and Grill and the deli Eppes Essen.

Minutes to the east of Livingston, off Northfield Avenue in West Orange, is the Essex County South Mountain Reservation Complex, which includes Turtle Back Zoo and the Codey Arena for ice skating. The reservation itself is a 2,110-acre county park.

The Schools

The Livingston Public Schools district has six elementary schools from kindergarten through Grade 5. Burnet Hill Elementary also offers preschool. There are about 450 students in Grade 6 at Mount Pleasant Middle School; about 900 students in Grades 7 and 8 at Heritage Middle School, and about 1,800 students in Grades 9 through 12 at Livingston High School. Average SAT scores at the high school for 2013-14, the most recent available, were 572 in reading, 610 in math and 586 in writing, compared with state averages of 496, 521 and 497.

The Commute

Mass-transit options to New York, each taking roughly an hour, include a jitney service from the Livingston Mall to the New Jersey Transit rail station in South Orange; driving to Harrison and taking the PATH to Lower Manhattan (or, with a transfer, to 33rd Street); or the Community Coach USA Route 77 bus from Livingston Center to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The jitney costs $70 a month, and a monthly rail pass from South Orange is $210. Monthly parking in Harrison is $215; a monthly PATH fare, $89. A 10-trip bus pass is $86.35.

The History

According to "Livingston: The Story of a Community," a book sponsored by the township, loggers were among the first European residents, because neighboring areas needed plenty of wood. And the hickory poles that grew in the woods along Canoe Brook were ideal for holding nets for shad fishing, then a thriving industry in New York-area waterways.

How to Decorate a Small Living Room

Every small living space offers design challenges. While it's important to make all of the rooms in your home functional, the living room is especially key because many people spend a lot of their time at home in the living room. From selecting furniture that is an appropriate scale for the space to maximizing hidden storage solutions to strategically placing a mirror to add depth and light, there are an extensive range of practical and easily attainable design ideas that will help you create the living room of your dreams in your small space.

6 Small Living Room Ideas

1. Select Furniture to Fit the Existing Space

2. Consider Hidden Storage

3. Create a Focal Point

4. Add Light and Depth

5. Don't Be Afraid of Color

6. Take Advantage of Vertical Space

1. Select Furniture to Fit the Existing Space

  • Determine Scale and Configuration

When you're working with a compact living room, large-scale furniture often isn't an option. Be realistic about the space. For example, if an oversized recliner won't fit, choose a pair of smaller chairs. Many people also get hung up on common furniture configurations. For example, nothing says that you need a full-sized sofa in your living room. A love seat paired with a bench and an armchair may work more naturally in your space.

  • Think Multifunctional

Choosing multifunctional pieces will also make the most of your living room. For example, a bench with storage will provide seating while housing pillows and blankets. A coffee table or console table makes a great addition to a living room but only when it makes sense for the space. Your small living room may be better suited for two small tables that open up the space and can be moved as needed to accommodate different functions.

  • Consider Floating Furniture and Low Seating

Floating furniture and low seating can make all the difference when it comes to keeping the space open and flowing. Design a floating furniture arrangement in the center of the room instead of pushing pieces up against the walls. Install shelves and other built-in components off the floor to create the illusion of space. If you choose low seating, select pieces that don't distract from the focal statement in the room. For example, a pair of low stools in front of the mantel will keep the fireplace as the focus of the living room.

Concealed storage is a great way to house items in the living room without creating a cluttered space. Furniture pieces that boast concealed storage, such as an ottoman with built-in storage, are a great option. You may also want to consider decor pieces that do double duty as storage, such as colorful baskets or jars. Do you have a hard time finding concealed storage pieces that don't take up a ton of floor space? Think about biting the bullet and devoting a single wall to built-in storage. To further streamline the storage, keep your items in the built-in hidden behind doors or curtains.

3. Create a Focal Point

A focal point is ideal for drawing people into a space while making it more uplifting and even sophisticated. Think about focusing your living room around a fireplace, sofa, coffee table, artwork, or mirror. Once you've settled on your focal point, design the rest of the living room around your statement piece to pull the entire look together.

The mirrors reflect the whole space, making it appear larger, while bringing more natural light into the room.

4. Add Light and Depth

Small living rooms with flat features and dark corners look dreary, even when they boast unique furniture and wall hangings. Maximize the natural light in the room, and don't be afraid to add artificial light sources as well. You'll bring even more light and depth into your compact living room with wallpaper and strategically placed mirrors and plants. Purely decorative mirrors still pack a visual punch and draw extra light into the space.

5. Don't Be Afraid of Color

Many people steer clear of color in small living rooms, believing that it will overwhelm the space. While there is nothing wrong with designing a small living room that features neutral shades, color can make the space appear larger. Select a color scheme with a maximum of three shades to create a unified aesthetic. If you want to use additional colors, incorporate them as accents. Typically lighter shades make a space look larger, but careful use of darker shades takes the style and drama in the room up a notch.

When you paint a small living room, select a satin or semigloss finish to reflect the light. If you want to tie the color scheme in the room together without painting or buying new furniture, consider an area rug. Layer a rug over carpeting to make the room feel cozier or conceal dark flooring with a brightly colored rug to lighten up a dark space.

6. Take Advantage of Vertical Space

Build up instead of out to maximize the available space. When you hang curtains, place the curtain rods right below the ceiling. Then choose curtains that extend all the way to the floor to make the ceiling look higher. If you're selecting art or other wall hangings, consider designing a gallery wall or choosing a few large pieces that fill the whole space. Do you have an odd nook that currently serves little or no purpose in the living room? Think about constructing shelves to simultaneously add storage and draw the eye upward.

Small Family Room Design

Finally, creating the ideal flow for your small living room is an ongoing process. It often takes weeks, or even months, of living with a living room arrangement to determine what is and isn't working. Don't be afraid to keep making tweaks and adjusting the layout until you find a arrangement that suits you and your family.

How Countries Around the World Are Showing Solidarity With the Black Lives Matter Protests in America

The death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers has sparked outrage over police brutality and spurred protests condemning institutional racism in American cities. Some marches have been peaceful, while others have erupted into violent clashes between police and activists. Millions of people in the U.S. aren't the only ones watching the violence unfold — the world is watching too.

As demonstrations in the U.S. go on, the world is jumping into the conversation about racism, systemic discrimination and injustice. Here's how other countries are responding to the George Floyd and Black Lives Matter protests.

The United Kingdom

Despite the United Kingdom's COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, hundreds of people marched in London in solidarity with protestors denouncing George Floyd's death. Demonstrations took place around the U.S. Embassy, Grenfell Tower and the Peckham neighborhood, where generations of African and Caribbean immigrants have lived.

The protesters cried out Floyd's name, "No justice, no peace" and "I can't breathe" as they made their way throughout the city. Grenfell Tower was also tagged with the message, "Black Lives Matter." Although much of the march focused on violence in the U.S., some people also called out the long history of racism and injustice in the United Kingdom.

Israel

Cities across Israel have seen activists take to the streets to protest police brutality across the globe and in their own neighborhoods. On May 30, police in Jerusalem fatally shot Eyad al-Halak, an unarmed 32-year-old Palestinian man with autism, outside the special needs school he attended and worked in.

Immediately following al-Halak's death, protestors began marching and staging sit-ins in large cities including Jerusalem, Haifa and Tel Aviv, and in smaller cities across the country, to express their outrage. Hundreds of activists who gathered in Tel Aviv and Haifa carried signs with messages reading "Justice for Eyad." In a show of solidarity with U.S. protestors, those across Israel also held "Black Lives Matter" and "Justice for George" signs to highlight both racially charged police killings.

Germany

In Berlin, thousands of Germans rallied in front of the U.S. Embassy, chanting "Black lives matter." At the Brandenburg Gate, the crowd marched with signs that read, "Justice can't wait," "Black futures matter" and "Suffocate the racists." Protestors also honored Floyd by painting his image on the Berlin Wall, a concrete barrier and symbol of oppression that divided the city from 1961 to 1989.

Germany's professional athletes also reacted to the protests in the U.S. During a game, soccer players Jadon Sancho and Achraf Hakimi revealed shirts bearing the words, "Justice for George Floyd." Soccer player Weston McKennie also honored Floyd during a match by wearing Floyd's name on an armband.

Kenya

In Nairobi, protesters gathered at the U.S. Embassy after the police killed a homeless man for violating a COVID-19 curfew. Unfortunately, this isn't the country's first case of police brutality. Local activists revealed that the police had taken 19 lives while enforcing COVID-19-related rules in Kenya.

Activist Boniface Mwangi expressed that the worldwide protests prove that police brutality is a public concern everywhere. Standing in solidarity with American protesters, residents of Nairobi demanded law enforcement changes and justice for victims in Kenya, the U.S. and the world.

Italy

In Milan, a crowd gathered in front of the U.S. consulate to express their support for demonstrators. The group sat down with their hands around their necks and signs by their sides bearing various messages condemning discrimination. Artists also created a mural to remind everyone of Floyd's repeated cry to police: "I can't breathe."

A Twitter user shared a post about a demonstration in Rome, noting that it took place in front of the American Embassy. "We were only like 50 people, but we all felt like we had to do something," wrote the protester.

Canada

Protesters also held rallies in Toronto, but the demonstrations occurred primarily in response to the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet, a Black woman who died while police were in her home. While the events that led to her passing are unclear, protesters demanded the end of racism and police violence, as well as answers on Korchinski-Paquet's death.

Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, addressed the issues in the U.S., saying, "Many Canadians of diverse backgrounds are watching, like all Canadians are, the news out of the United States with shock and with horror. Anti-Black racism — racism — is real. It's in the United States but it's also in Canada and we know people are facing systemic discrimination, unconscious bias and anti-Black racism every single day."
